Study of Genetic Variability in Sugarcane Induced through Mutation Breeding
نویسندگان
چکیده
Three sugarcane clones viz., NI-98, NIA-2004 and BL4 were tested for induced somatic mutation using irradiation doses of 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40Gy. The treatments 30Gy and 40Gy exhibited negative impact on the agronomic traits under study. The dose 20Gy showed stimulating and enhancing effect on plant height and cane yield (kg/plot). The analysis of variance (mean square) for all the characters under study revealed that all the radiation doses were significantly different (P ≤ 0.5). Genetic advance at 2% selection intensity was about two fold higher than that at 30% selection intensity and intermediate at 10% selection intensity. High heritability percentage in broad sense was recorded. Variability obtained from mutation breeding was also examined through molecular marker techniques (RAPD), most similar sugarcane mutants (20 Gy) were P1 and P4 (85%) while most dissimilar mutants were P3 and Parent (38%).

Molecular and morphological assessment of genetic variability induced by gamma radiation in canola
Mutation induction is considered as an effective way to enrich plant genetic variation, particularly for traits with a very low level of genetic variation. This research was conducted to assess genetic variation induced by gamma radiation in M2 and M3 mutant lines of canola (Brassica napus L.) by SSR and morphological characteristics and to identify useful mutants in terms of agronomic traits. ...
متن کاملAnalysis of genetic diversity among high sucrose genotypes of sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) derived from CoC 671 using sugarcane specific microsatellite markers
Sugarcane breeders target genetic improvement for sucrose content using conventional and molecular approaches in order to produce more sugar per unit area. The sucrose rich clone viz. CoC 671 is a widely used parent in juice quality improvement programmes. The present study is carried out using twenty eight derivatives of CoC 671 bred through crossing as male parent, as female parent, selfing, ...
متن کاملStudy of genetic diversities and relatedness of Iranian citrus genotypes using morphological and molecular markers
Having knowledge about genetic relationships among accessions is necessary for developing breeding strategies to produce improved cultivars. In present study, genetic diversity and inter-relationship among 29 genotypes of citrus were comparatively analyzed using morphological and RAPD markers. Significant variability was observed among citrus genotypes for 61 quantitative and qualitative morpho...
متن کاملGenetic Variability of Exotic Sugarcane Genotypes
Sugarcane is the main sugar producing crop in Bangladesh. However, improvement of this crop through breeding is limited due to lack of genetic diversity. Therefore, genetic variability and diversity assessment are necessarily important for the foreign introduced materials. Experiment was conducted with 9 exotic sugarcane genotypes at Regional Station, Bangladesh Sugar Crop Research Institute, G...
متن کاملGenetic variability and identification of markers associated with germination parameters in gamma-irradiation induced mutants of sunflower under water stress condition
The objectives of the present research were to evaluate the variability induced by gamma-irradiation among a population of M8 sunflower mutant lines and to identify molecular markers associated with different seed germination traits. Experiments were carried out under well watered and water-stressed conditions using a randomized blocks design, with three replications. The studied traits consist...
